10/9 - 10/11 Lesson Plan for field experience

Today class went well.  There were a few hiccups because a few assignments have not been turned in yet.  I gathered everyone in the middle of the classroom away from the computers, in order to discuss any issues or questions.  I was able to be firm as well as understanding.  The fact that I was able to show leniency and compassion with a particular student who at times has been problematic left me feeling empowered.

Even though I feel sometimes I am inferior in the technology field, I was able to assist a student with a technology issue with a program that is unfamiliar to me.  I even had four students from my other section that came in to use spare computers to complete assignments for my EDLT 368.

I needed to take care of some housecleaning type duties today.  I have been way too lenient with time frames for turning in reports of observation.  I am giving until tomorrow at 12am, and then students who have not submitted receive zeroes.  I was also approached with a group participation issue.  Since there are assignments associated with each group, I let the members know that they would be graded individually based on their submission.  That is all that I can do.

August 28 & 30

Today we began class with the obligatory introductions.  I believe it is important to try to get to know each student, but it is especially important to be able to call each student by their first name.  In the middle of introductions, I had one student come in visibly shaken, and she left in tears.  Of course I was concerned, but I needed to attend to the remainder of the class.  I felt strange having to go on, but I do not want to shortchange the other students who have paid for this class.

Today was basically a meet and greet.  Students were assigned alphabetically to either my lab or Ashley's.

October 4, 2012 Gradebook and Newsletter

Today I began class as usual.  The students and I came together in the center of the room before they sat at the computers. We talked a little about the observations that all but two students completed last week.  We talked a little about the use of smart boards in the classroom, and we talked about how even the projector in considered technology.  One particular group who observed a multi-grade classroom of Kinder and first commented on the skills and attributes of the teacher.  "Her ability to engage the students, and the control she exhibited in the classroom was amazing" commended a pair of students.
